Afternoon Tea at Mama Doreens

If you live in or around Yorkshire, Mama Doreens is a must visit. Established on Cold Bath Road in Harrogate, they sell cupcakes, retro sweets, hot and cold drinks and of course, afternoon tea.

When we arrived at Mama Doreens, the food was already set up and waiting for us. The two waitresses sat us down and took our drinks orders. We both chose a hot chocolate, this came quickly and was topped with lots of whipped cream and marshmallows. The presentation on both the food and the drinks was absolutely beautiful – it was almost a shame to spoil it! But we were glad we did, the savouries were fresh and the fillings made a nice change from the usual boring cucumber sandwiches you often find with these afternoon teas. The scones were to die for, I could have happily sat eating these all day long and the cupcakes were deliciously moist with just the right amount of buttercream to finish them.

We were given so much food, there is no way that two of us could have finished it all. Our waitress seemed to understand this and happily boxed the leftovers up for us without having to be asked. Whilst we were waiting for our bill, I commented on a packet of sweets they were selling that I hadn’t tried before, the waitress then threw me over a box and when I tried to pay for them – would not accept my money. This, I thought, was the icing on our cake for such a lovely visit. Although we were absolutely stuffed, the cakes were that nice – we also purchased an extra box of four. These would be perfect for birthdays, or just a special treat for you or a loved one.

We paid just £14.95 each for our afternoon tea, this included the additional hot chocolates. I’m really not sure how they provided such a stunning array of food for that price, however they did it – it made me desperate to come back for more.
