Ten Hours in London

Peggy Porschen London

I love spending time in London so much, any opportunity to go I’ll grab. Yesterday I spent the day in London and managed to cram in so much food, shopping and fun…

First stop (as always) was Harrods. I’d had my eye on a Gucci bag for absolutely ages now, so headed over to pick that up. I knew what I wanted (I had been pondering over it for long enough) so was able to get in and out quite quickly. As our next stop was the Godiva Chocolate Cafe (situated in Harrods) and I’m a huge chocoholic, I really didn’t want to waste any time.

Normally when I come to Harrods, I’ll go straight for the Ice Cream Parlour, but I’d recently heard about the Godiva cafe and chocolate will always win with me. My friend and I shared the classic chocolate fondue and I also went for a side of chocolate fudge cake, she got a croissant as well. I kid you not, the chocolate cake and croissant were the best I’ve ever tasted (is your friend even your friend if she doesn’t let you steal her food?!), this place didn’t disappoint and I’ll be straight back in here next time I’m in London.

After our chocolatey breakfast, it was time for a few hours of retail therapy. I popped over to Jo Malone to pick up a bottle of my new favourite cologne, Velvet Rose & Oud; then we tubed it over to Oxford Street and spent a bit of time exploring Selfridges.

Once we had finished shopping, we were ready for something savoury, so it was over to The Churchill, situated in the Hyatt Regency Hotel. This place has currently been transformed into an amazingly cozy winter wonderland, complete with fairy lights, faux fur throws and wonderfully warm blankets.

Food of choice was the cheese fondue (when melted cheese is on offer, is there any other option?) which was absolutely incredible. It was served up with new potatoes, breadsticks, mini gherkins and pickles, bread and grapes and was the perfect portion for two. I also chose the Northern Delights cocktail, and my friend the British Raj Mojito.

Next up we were ready for some dessert, so it was off to Sloane Square to the most beautiful cake shop I’ve ever had the pleasure of experiencing – Peggy Porschen.

I had the raspberry & lemon cake and my friend a red velvet cupcake. I also went for a hot chocolate, which believe me isn’t just a pretty novelty – it was so chocolatey, delicious and creamy, and a very generous portion too.

Our next stop was Covent Garden to experience the quirky delights of the apple market and all the wonderful surrounding boutiques.

Oh and of course I had to pop into Godiva to purchase a box of their chocolate strawberries. These are just the best, and I only wish I had got a bigger box. Ben’s Cookies is highly recommended too, if you’re in the area.

By this point we were shattered and ready to just wind down and relax with some nice easy food and drinks. We opted for German Gymnasium which is conveniently situated at Kings Cross and serves – well, German Food… we relaxed here for a couple of hours before catching our train home.
