There’s something so luxurious about fragrance, I believe it really is one of the most perfect gifts a girl can recieve. Fragrances can help us re live memories, attract us to someone, entice us and most importantly, to me, allow us to have a piece of the high end designer world; something which if it wasn’t for fragrance, may be unattainable for most. Ever since I was a child, I used to collect and display perfume bottles and at the age of 27, I haven’t changed one bit. To me, there’s just something so exciting about a pretty trinket of fragrance. I thought I’d share with you some of my all time favourites, and some of my latest discoveries.
Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud Cologne Intense – I recently tried a tester of this whilst shopping, with the intention to walk away and purchase it at a later date if I liked it. Within 30 minutes I was back at the counter buying it. It’s an amazingly complex fragrance, that’s very unique and has depth. Not at all floral to me, it has more of a rose jam esque feel to it, which I love.
Replica Funfair Evening – A very unique, sweet – gourmand scent that brings back so many fond memories for me. This perfume smells like nothing else I’ve ever tried. Another beautifully complex fragrance, that always gets compliments. It does smell differently on everyone though, dependant on how it reacts with your own body chemistry (the sign of a good fragrance) so be sure to try it for yourself before purchasing. Jo Malone Blackberry & Bay – Never one that was on my wish list, I only purchased this because I got the bath oil for Christmas. After taking a bath one evening, I couldn’t get over how beautiful the scent on my skin was afterwards; and again, instantly ordered it. It’s a really fresh and clean scent, but has a sweet fruity twist – however, not too sweet as I also detect a little masculinity in there. A real firm favourite for me right now and one I think I will continue to purchase for a long time.
Miss Dior Eau de Parfum – One of my signature scents, it’s so fresh and everyone comments on it when I wear it. The bottle is stunning and it’s the perfect host for this feminine fragrance. It contains notes of strawberry sorbet & tangerine, complemented by sweet notes of popcorn and jasmine amongst others. It really is like nothing else I’ve smelt before.
Chance Chanel – Again, another firm favourite, I’m not sure this one will ever be knocked off my favourites list. This was my first ever “grown up” fragrance and it has so so many lovely memories for me. It reminds me of Christmas, it reminds me of summer, it reminds me of my first date. There’s clearly a trend here, I wear it a lot. This is a fragrance that gets you noticed. Again, it’s so unique and a little goes a long way. It contains notes of amber patchouli, pink pepper and jasmine. I will never ever tire of this fragrance, it’s simply stunning.
Jo Malone Dark Amber & Ginger Lily Cologne Intense – I was expecting a really heady, wintery type scent going on the name; but actually this reminds me of a summer holiday – a very exotic, very indulgent, very rich summer holiday. It’s stunning, and complex too. I say complex, because as much as it reminds me of a summer holiday, it actually reminds me of Christmas a bit too, and of long crisp winter walks; yes I know I sound a bit of a nutcase, one minute it reminds me of exotic holidays, the next Christmas… but I guess that’s the complexity of it.
Miss Dior Blooming Bouquet – A fresh, delicate spring scent. A modern, fizzy floral that pops. More of a day fragrance to me. An exciting scent that adds a real twist to your usual floral.
Chanel No5 L’Eau – I’d describe this one as a fresh, modern, younger twist on the original Chanel N°5 perfume, and it really doesn’t disappoint. It’s predominantly a floral, but a light floral (not powdery), that’s offset with a citrus twist and eventually brings through some musk notes. Although modern, this fragrance still manages to stay luxurious, in homage to the original; I suspect the rose, jasmine and ylang ylang notes help there.
Dior Addict Eau Fraiche – This is a beautiful, light, delicate fragrance that is ideal for summer. It fills me with memories of my boyfriend and I’s first holiday together to Mexico and if ever I’m having a rubbish day I can take a whiff of this for an instant uplift. Fruity top notes, complimented with rose and red berries, it reminds be of being young, happy and carefree.
Viktor & Rolf Flowerbomb & Flowerbomb Extreme – I do not know a single person who doesn’t enjoy this perfume, both men and women. I can literally smell this scent on my clothes even after washing (which isn’t a bad thing), the staying power is just that wonderful. This has notes of bergamot, jasmine, freesia and orchid and is such a unique but memorable fragrance. The extreme version of this scent is just that bit edgier and I feel has more complexity and depth.
