I’ve talked about Jo Malone Velvet Rose & Oud quite a few times on my blog before, it’s one of my all time favourites. There’s something so unique about it, that makes the fragrance unlike anything I’ve tried before; think of a combination of warm spice, rose jam, sweet milk, oud and fresh rose and you’ve kind of hit the nail on the head. Not a floral, and not an overpowering oud fragrance either (I actually really dislike the smell of oud on its own); this fragrance is something super special that has mystery, depth and rarity.
I was therefore intrigued by the Rich Extracts range from Jo Malone… the collection encapsulates three of the most popular cologne intense offerings – Velvet Rose & Oud, Tuberose Angelica and Oud & Bergamot. Priced at £176 each, they promise to magnify and intensify each primary ingredient found in the fragrances.
So, are they worth the eye watering price tag and do they differ at all from their originals? If you have a favourite in one of the three fragrances on offer; then yes, these are worth the money. So for me, Velvet Rose & Oud is a fragrance I wear quite a lot, and one I would repeat purchase… Now these bottles come in at a huge 100ml, and seriously guys… ONE spritz is all you need. I used one spritz on myself and could literally smell it all day long, and the scent was still subtly on my clothes after they had been washed! They are strong, and super long lasting – in fact, I’m not actually sure if I’ll ever actually finish the bottle – it will last me that long. Fair enough if you wear the fragrance everyday, but to me this is too special (and probably too rich) to wear every single day to the office etc… I like to save it for special occasions. With regards to it differing from its original; no, it doesn’t. The scent is exactly the same, but much more intensified – so you wouldn’t need a bottle of rich extract and a bottle of cologne intense.
What makes these even more special, is the intricately detailed, eye catching bottles they are packaged in. They really give the whole experience of this purchase the wow factor… if you do invest, you must display the bottle on your dressing table. They are quite simply, stunning.
