Let’s talk Blacks Corner. Blacks Corner is an incredible little eatery / deli / wine bar, situated on, well… a corner, of a lovely street in East Boldon. I discovered this wonderful little treasure via a good friend who lives close to the area, and last weekend I ventured over to enjoy their “Not” Afternoon Tea.
Now if it didn’t have you at the quirky menu selection name – Not Afternoon Tea, I love it! – their beautiful decor, extensive cheese, meat and wine offerings, handmade chocolate truffles, and cleverly selected gin list might just do so… and if meat, cheese, chutneys and bread are your jam – then this place is particularly up your street.
Now yes, evidently, I love a good afternoon tea. But what I love even more, is an afternoon tea with a twist. Blacks Corner certainly offer that. A two tier slate board serving contains, on the bottom, an array of meats, cheeses, chutneys, crudités, bread and even pesto (the best offering, by the way) all perfectly paired up and arranged to create an out of the ordinary tasting experience. Then the top tier presents you with four mouthwateringly beautiful little cakes; carrot, coffee and walnut, chocolate, and lemon, and a selection of their handmade truffles – which guys, are amazing, seriously amazing, if you go here, please take some home with you… I really wish I did. Anyway, we ate the lot… then, we ordered more. We also washed it all down with iced coffees, which were also equally as wonderful.
The whole visit was just a really enjoyable experience. The place was busy, yet the way they’ve set everything up means it never feels that way, it’s really well set out – and it’s evident that a lot of attention to detail has been put in. It’s cool, it’s quirky, and more importantly, it’s different. I’d return here, and I’d return in a heartbeat. East Boldon, I envy you.
