Books to Indulge in This Spring

The Perfect Child

This was actually written by a child psychologist, and although it’s fiction, it does make you question where the lines between fact and fiction cross – which makes it all the more chilling. This follows a young couple who are desperate for a child of their own, and when a six year old abandoned child falls into their lives… they think they have found everything they ever wanted. I couldn’t put this down.

Girl A

I have mixed feelings about this. It’s a great book, and I think I read it in three days, I was that desperate to find out what happens next… but ultimately I feel like the build up overstated the ending, and I ended up feeling quite underwhelmed at the twist, and left with a lot more questions than answers. However, that may be part of what makes this so good, as it leaves you thinking about it long after you’ve read it.

Verity

This one is really good. Really good, and quite creepy at times. It follows a writer who is tasked with finishing another writers (Verity) bestselling books, after she falls ill. Whilst organising Verity’s office, she uncovers a chilling secret. I found this hard to put down, and it’s easily up there with one of my best books of 2021.

The Husband’s Secret

I found this hard to get into initially, as there’s quite a few stories going on, and a lot to follow; but ultimately the stories run parallel and then interweave; and you’re left with a really gripping story, with quite a shocking, clever twist.

Lock Every Door

Ooh this one is a little bit different from the usual psychological thriller, and it’s really good! It’s very gothic, and again, at times a bit scary! It’s written really well, and makes for such an enjoyable read. I don’t want to ruin the story, but it follows an apartment sitter, who begins to unravel a chilling mystery about the place.

Sometimes I Lie

This one will give you Girl on the Train vibes; though it can get a little confusing at times. It’s a really clever, and intriguing story that kind of leaves you wanting more. Ultimately, it follows the life of Amber, who finds herself in a coma, but doesn’t know why, or how – there are three versions of Ambers life ongoing throughout the book, the present, Amber as a child, and Amber in the days prior to the coma – and they interweave into a clever book full of exciting twists and turns.

The Guest List

I haven’t actually read this one yet; but it’s next up on my list, and I’m really excited about it. It’s centred around an island, where a wedding is taking place – but one of the guests ends up dead, and the rest of the party is trapped on the island. It has some really great reviews; and I can’t wait to dive in.
