How I Organise My Kindle

I’ve always loved the convenience of a Kindle, but I’ll admit it can get messy fast. Between impulse downloads, free samples and half-read books, it doesn’t take long before the home screen feels more chaotic than inspiring. Over time I’ve worked out a way of keeping mine organised so that when I pick it up, I know exactly where everything is.

The biggest game-changer has been folders. I’ve set mine up by category so I can find things quickly depending on my mood. Right now mine look like this:

Fiction – the general catch-all for novels that don’t fit elsewhere

Horror – I love having this separate, it keeps my spookier reads easy to find

Gentle – I’m really into gentle, fictional fantasy books (like the one in the cover image of this post)

Psychological Thrillers – one of my favourite genres, so it deserved its own folder

Cookbooks – for all my recipe books, surprisingly useful on the Kindle app too

Art & Design – bigger, image-heavy books that I like dipping into

Coffee Table Reads – the kind of lifestyle books you’d usually leave out on display

Lifestyle & Wellness – skincare, nutrition, minimalism, all that good stuff

Romance – light, easy reads for when I don’t want anything too heavy

Non-Fiction – biographies, essays, history, anything outside the fiction umbrella

Travel – guides, inspiration, and the odd memoir set somewhere far away.

Other ways I keep it neat…

Samples Folder – I keep all my samples in their own folder. If I don’t download the full book within a few months, I delete it.

Currently Reading Folder – I move whatever I’m reading into here, so it’s always at the top of the list.

Archive Ruthlessly – if I know I won’t ever read something, I archive it straight away rather than letting it sit there.

Sync Across Devices – I use the Kindle Colorsoft at home, and also have a kindle basic for travel and taking out with my in my handbag. I always keep them neat so everything matches. It stops me from losing track of where I left off.

Use Collections Instead of Cluttered Home Screens – Kindle lets you view everything in collections (folders) only. Switching the view to “Collections” makes it feel instantly calmer.

Seasonal Lists – I sometimes make a folder for “Autumn Reads” or “Summer Books”. Once the season passes, I either finish them, move them into their permanent folder, or archive them.

Prioritise a Reading Queue – I keep a folder called “Up Next” where I add two or three books I actually intend to start soon. It stops me from endlessly scrolling when I finish something.

Keep PDFs Separate – I send a lot of PDFs (guides, documents, recipes) to my Kindle, so I keep them in their own folder so they don’t crowd out my books.

Rename Where Possible – Some books download with messy titles or all caps. Renaming them makes your library look neater.

Use the ‘Sort by Author’ Feature – It makes series much easier to keep track of, especially if you’re reading thrillers with multiple books by the same author.

Do a Monthly Declutter – Once a month I archive anything I know I won’t finish, clear out samples, and update my “Currently Reading” folder. It takes five minutes but makes a big difference.

For me, keeping my Kindle organised has made me actually use it more. Instead of scrolling through a pile of random downloads, I can open it, go straight to the mood I’m in, and start reading. It feels calm, neat, and a little bit more like a curated library.
