Going Back to Basics: The Fendi Peekaboo

When I look back at my handbag collection, it’s clear I’ve gone through phases. There was a time when I wanted the obvious logos – pieces that made it clear where they were from the second you saw them. At the time it felt exciting, almost like proof I had that bag. But somewhere along the way, I realised I wasn’t reaching for them anymore.

I actually owned the grey Fendi Peekaboo about six years ago, and at the time I let it go in favour of something more “on trend”. Unsurprisingly, I lost interest in that bag fairly quickly, and I’ve always looked back on selling the Peekaboo as a mistake. It’s funny how personal style has a way of circling back – the pieces that felt too subtle then are exactly the ones I value now.

Now I want something different. I find myself craving handbags that don’t shout, that feel quietly luxurious without being plastered with branding. Bags I’ll actually want to carry in ten years’ time, not just because of who made them, but because the design itself has stood the test of time.

That’s why the Fendi Peekaboo has felt like the right move. It’s recognisable, but in a subtle way. The structure, the detailing, the way it sits when you carry it, it all feels understated but deliberate. It’s the kind of bag that doesn’t need a logo front and centre because the craftsmanship speaks for itself.

For me, it marks a shift. Less about chasing the “it bag” of the moment, more about building a collection of pieces I’ll genuinely keep and use. Going back to basics, in the best way.
