Diptyque Eau Duelle

Diptyque Eau Duelle

I absolutely adore sweet, sugary, gourmand scents; they’re probably my favourite. Anything vanilla / caramel based etc, really grabs my attention. Hence why I was so excited to find out that Diptyque had a vanilla based perfume in their collection; that, and the fact that it was apparently quite a strong scent, got me super excited and on paper, I was already sold.

You’d be forgiven for overlooking the Diptyque fragrance collection in favour of their huge, and extremely well known scented candles – I did… Eau Duelle has actually been around for a good few years now, however I personally only discovered it at the beginning of this year – I clearly need to up my Diptyque game.

Eau Duelle is a spicy, oriental vanilla based perfume; notes include pink peppercorn, saffron, cardamom, frankincense, cypress and juniper. It’s made for both men and women, however I find this to be extremely feminine; so I would really recommend having a tester for yourself first, especially if purchasing for a man. As with most (or you would hope…) higher priced fragrances, this is beautifully complex, changing throughout the wear. It reminds me very much of Replica Funfair, but much sweeter – and Replica is sweet – and more clingy too. You see as much as I adore sweet fragrances, I’m surprised to say that I think this one is too sweet for me – not something I’ve ever stated before… maybe it’s my body chemistry it doesn’t work with, I don’t know, but I find it too heavy, sickly, and at times almost suffocating. I’m really saddened to say that, as longevity and sillage are incredible, especially for an EDT (something I always look for in my fragrance) and the bottle is just beautiful; but unfortunatley, I don’t think Eau Duelle is the one for me…
