A Slow and Sleepy Start to the Year

I thought with the turn of a new month, it might be a nice time to do a bit of a chatty photo update. Obviously Christmas has been and gone, and we’re now into the full swing of a new year; admittedly it’s been a bit of an odd start to the year for the majority of us – well, probably all of us – so there’s not masses of exciting information and outings in this one… but I thought I’d share a few books I’ve been enjoying, and a couple of quirky little purchases, too.

I try to keep my blog to as much escapism as I can for people, especially at the moment – but sometimes I think it’s important to be realistic too – and I won’t lie, I’ve really been struggling (like most people I know) with this lockdown. I’m okay in the week because I’m so busy with work and studying for my final exam, but come the weekend, I do find it hard. Last weekend I was really fed up, we had moved our wedding again (2022 now, to try and avoid the pandemic restrictions), and I just felt pretty hopeless – so I decided to have a completely carefree day and do whatever I wanted. I baked a lemon drizzle cake, I read the new book I got for Christmas, and I ate ALL my Christmas chocolates – and whilst it wasn’t the cure all, it was lovely, and it did help.

I have however been trying to make the most of the downtime, by throwing myself into books and new TV shows – my most recent additions were these two (two very different ones!) but ones I’m looking forward to indulging in – I shall keep you updated. TV wise, we really enjoyed The Serpent on BBC, and I’d highly recommend it. I also watched It’s a Sin this weekend, and did the entire five episodes in in two days! Again, highly recommend. I’ve also just started Marcella (I know I am very late to the party here…) and also have The Pembrokeshire Murders, ITV; Staged, Netflix; Traces, BBC I think; and The Drowning, C5 on my to watch list – so plenty to get through.

Oh, and we also had another afternoon tea at home this weekend – afternoon tea is my favourite thing – and so it’s been nice to try and recreate something special where I can. I’ve also, all of a sudden become really obsessed with quirky art additions recently, and I’m really enjoying browsing online for really unique finds – I must admit though, I do kind of have all the gear and no idea… I’ve popped a few images below of my latest additions (although granted the plate isn’t exactly art, is it – but I thought it did fit into the quirky category!)
