As soon as the weather turns and the nights get darker, I always end up reading more. There’s something about being inside with a blanket, a candle on and a book that’s a bit eerie that just fits this time of year. I’ve read quite a few recently, and these are the ones that really stuck with me.
The Lamb – Lucy Rose
Creepy in that quiet, unnerving way that gets under your skin. It’s not full of twists or shock value, just clever and deeply unsettling.
We Used to Live Here – Marcus Kliewer
Easily the best thing I’ve read in a long time. I can’t stop thinking about it and I already know I’ll read it again. It’s strange, tense, and completely original – one of those books you wish you could read for the first time again.
The House That Held Her – Ellis Hart
Really beautifully written, dark without being heavy. It’s eerie but also quite sad in places – the kind of story that lingers.
Home Before Dark – Riley Sager
One of those books that’s just an easy yes for autumn. Fast-paced, a bit of mystery, a bit of horror, and that perfect haunted-house atmosphere.
Haunted Tales – Adam Macqueen
Short stories that feel classic but not dated. The sort you can read one or two of before bed and get that cosy-creepy feeling without needing to commit to a full novel.
Incidents Around the House – Josh Malerman
This one was recommended to me by a friend. It’s very odd, but in a good way. The kind of book that makes you feel slightly uncomfortable the whole time and you can’t quite explain why, which is exactly what makes it work.
All of these have that perfect chilly evening energy. The ones you pick up with a cup of tea when it’s dark outside and you just want something that pulls you in straight away.
