Happy new year everyone. I’m really not the biggest fan of new years eve, I find the whole concept and expectation of it a little bit silly if I’m being honest. Last NYE we went to the cinema and it was one of the most enjoyable I’ve had; this year, there wasn’t much on, so we stayed in and watched James Bond and enjoyed our favourite takeaway. It was great. I do however, really like new years day – I like to make a nice dinner and just relax and enjoy the last of the downtime before it’s back to business as usual.

I’m not really one for new years resolutions, last year I didn’t make any, and I ended up having what was probably the best year of my entire life. I didn’t actually know any of the events and plans that made it so were going to happen either – so I suppose my only goal will just be to continue being happy. The bit between Christmas and new year – the post Christmas slumber is always a funny one isn’t it. I spent it having lots of lovely lay ins, reading lots of books, indulging in more food, going on some nice long dog walks, and just generally reflecting on a lovely year. However, as much as I’m not into the new year concept, I do find that NYD does bring a sense of freshness with it. I’m quite looking forward to getting back into a routine and also getting back into my studies, and preparing for my next exam – as much as I do find it stressful sometimes – I do really love learning and I also feel like it gives me some real purpose. On a side note, my computer just autocorrected “gives”, in that last sentence, to “Givenchy” – maybe it’s a hint that I could cut down on the shopping for 2019..?

Anyway, back to the post Christmas slumber. I’d mentioned in my previous post that I’d taken a really enjoyable trip to York for the day, and it gave me an idea for a fun day out for my nephew. He’s really into Harry Potter at the moment, and he was coming round for a sleepover, so we spent the day prior in our pyjamas with copious amounts of popcorn, watching The Deathly Hallows, then the next day ventured into York with my mum for a bit of a wizardy day out.

We took a stroll into all the Harry Potter shops, where my nephew was able to try out all the wands, bag himself a flying snitch, and really just revel in the excitement of it all. We also went into The Potions Cauldron and had a butter beer, then tried out some of the various potions they sold – this was a real highlight and the staff in there are so good with making it such a lovely experience for the children. I’d highly recommend if you have any young Harry Potter fans in the family.

After that we took a stroll around some of the lovely shops and cafes York has to offer. We enjoyed the loveliest hot chocolate (so lovely, I had two) in a little Italian cafe, and also fresh sugared doughnuts – just like the ones you get at the seaside.

I also had a little mooch around (much to my nephews dismay) the Evil Eye gin shop. It’s just filled to the brim with rows and rows of every gin imaginable, and is a must visit for any gin fans.

I hope you also enjoyed your post Christmas slumber, and I hope you’re full of excitement for the year ahead. I think I’ll spend today cooking a dinner, having a nice long bath, maybe playing a bit of The Sims, and I may even start a new book…
