Quick Fire Wedding Checklist; The Food

There’s a reason so many people hire wedding planners… as lovely as it is, wedding planning can be a lot! Chances are, if you’re reading this post, you’re getting married – and I’d be willing to bet you have so much information you’re trying to juggle in your head for the big day… it’s easy to overlook some of those little details, especially when you’re trying to plan so much at once; and so I thought it would be helpful to put together some little quick fire checklists for certain elements of it. Now, aside from the love you and your partner have for each other and all the other gorgeous romantic bits, let’s be honest now, food is a biggie! Here’s a little checklist / sanity check, just to make sure you don’t get caught out…

Who is transporting your cake to the venue? Nine times out of ten, your cake makers will cover this. But please make sure you double check this with them. It’s nothing to worry about, but you do want the reassurance that you have it in hand.

Do your guests have any dietary allergies, intolerances, or requirements (vegan / vegetarian, etc). We’re a wonderfully diverse group of human beings, and you want everyone to be able to enjoy the day. A great way to capture this information is on your RSVP’s.

Wedding favours – one of the big trends these days seems to be alcoholic wedding favours, but actually, some venues don’t allow this – check in your venue contract, and if you’re unsure, ask. Again, it’s nothing to worry about – but the last thing you want to do is to be left short…

Does your wedding cake cover enough portions for all the guests you are expecting? A good cake maker will have asked you how many guests you need to feed before they give you a quote – but it’s a good question to ask, as most people at the wedding will want to enjoy a piece of cake with you.

Do you want music playing at your wedding breakfast? Food is entertainment on the big day, and the two pair together nicely. Have you considered having a playlist put on to warm the room up whilst you enjoy the wedding breakfast? It’s not a necessity, but it’s something that often gets overlooked, and can add a lovely touch. You obviously don’t want an all out rave whilst you’re eating dinner, but some low key music can really soften the room and add a lovely atmosphere for your guests.

Have you checked your evening catering numbers? It’s very unlikely, but you don’t want the evening food to run out. A good rule of thumb is to cater for approximately 75% of your total evening numbers. Some will still be full from the wedding breakfast, some who are evening only guests may have eaten before they came, and some will just want to have a drink and a dance!

Will tea and coffee be on hand? Okay, I know I sound like a nana, and this sounds extremely boring. But honestly, your older guests (brownie points with the grandparents) will really appreciate it. Especially after a big meal. It doesn’t have to be a huge thing, but at the least just double check that the bar do serve it.
